Well… I held off on making this post as long as I could in hopes of having better tidings to report. But with so many folks invested in how Peter’s doing, I’d better share the hard news. ![]()
Wednesday evening, as we were on our way to the campsite, I stopped for gas in southwest San Antonio (Circle K/ Valero at the intersection of TX-151 and Ingram road, if you’re looking at a map). Peter was in his Peter Containment Device in the front passenger seat, which had been working out exactly as planned… he hadn’t wriggled out of it to get loose in the RV. It’s basically a three-sided cage zip-tied to the interior to be flush against the passenger door. I wanted him to be able to look out the passenger window, which he enjoys. Unfortunately, I overlooked the fact that the power window control button is right there on the door ledge. You can see where this is going.
As I was struggling to line the RV up with the gas pump (which involved popping in and out of the driver’s side door to see where the gauge was in comparison to the pump), Peter apparently stepped on the window button, rolled it halfway down, and jumped out. I got back in the RV and noticed that he was gone, but it took me a minute to spot the window. By then, he was nowhere in sight. ![]()
I searched that evening as long as I could, and went back and searched again yesterday. I told the local business people all around that he was missing, and gave them my contact info in case they saw him. He’s microchipped. I plan to call the local shelters today and ask them to look out for him. If I can get my printer working with my router, I will print some flyers and put them up. But there’s no denying that this is worse than when he was lost in the campground. He can’t just stroll back to the RV. (I’m camped about 45 minutes away).
If y’all could pray for a miracle one more time, that would be so appreciated. If I do find him, I’ll take him back to Margaret’s house in Houston to stay while I’m on the road. He’s voted pretty clearly with his feet that he doesn’t want to be a travelling cat, but he knows and loves Margaret so I think he’d settle in just fine at her house. I just need him to come out of hiding and give me a chance to do the right thing for him.
